Top 5 Strange Job Interview Questions and What They Mean

Top 5 Strange Job Interview Questions and What They MeanTop 5 Strange Job Interview Questions and What They Mean1Preparing for a job vorstellungsgesprch can be stressful. Most people get butterflies and spend time mentally preparing for the unknown questions. I always fear the Where do you binnensee yourself in five years? or the What is your biggest weakness? questions, but there are quite a few strange job interview questions that are much harder to prepare for. Many companies have moved to different interview styles to keep candidates thinking in fresh and unique ways. Recently, Glassdoor compiled a list of the Top 25 Oddball Interview Questions, chosen from tens of thousands provided by job candidates in 2013.Here are our plektrons for the top five strange job interview questions and what they mean. Hopefully knowingwhy a company might ask these will help you formulate your answers.Five top strange job interview questions and what they mean1. How many square feet of pizza is eate n in the U.S. each year? Goldman SachsI am koranvers there is a reason that a multinational investment banking firm is wondering about pizza. This is one of the strange job interview questions that would stump most interviewees. This question would be hard to answer for the average part who may not have a grasp on the number of pizzas sold, the sizes, and what was eaten or thrown away, and most importantly, why they are talking about pizza.Really, though, this is one of those strange job interview questions that areasked to see how well an individual can do market estimation, which makes perfect sense when you are applying for a job that requires logical reasoning and quick critical thinking skills.2. If you were a pizza delivery man, how would you benefit from scissors? ApplePizza, again? Weird. But beyond that, my first thought was of a pizza delivery man snipping my pizza with a pair of scissors, which is probably not what Apple would be hoping for in a response. Apparently, th e purpose of this question is to see if you can separate the occupation from the need for scissors. The question does not ask how your job would benefit from having scissors, but instead looks to see if you can pick apart the logic of the question, which is how would you benefit from scissors regardless of the job. These are strange job interview questions indeed3. Are you a hunter or a gatherer? DellThis question is dear to me, as I have a background in anthropology and could probably tell you way more information than youd ever care to hear about early tribal bands. What is the purpose of asking strange job interview questionslike this in a job interview? Hunters can be seen as focused short-term thinkers who excel at a single task. Gatherers are multi-taskers who have to focus on the big picture while taking care of a wide variety of tasks. Depending on the type of position you are looking for, you would want to choose one over the other.4. Do you believe in Bigfoot? Norwegian Cruise LinesNow this question would really throw me for a loop in a job interview, as it deals with my level of belief or faith. Companies are prevented from asking many personal questions that can reveal information regarding your age, marital status, nationality, political affiliation, religion, physical abilities, residency, legal troubles, and military service. With questions like these, a company can see how much stock you put into faith versus science, and how you justify your answer demonstrates how logically you come to a conclusion about something unknown. This question can be used to gauge critical thinking skills and reactions to unknown or touchy situations. This is one of the strange job interview questions that would be beneficial to think about before the interview.5. If there was a movie produced about your life, who would play you and why? SinglePlatform This question reminds me of those viral Facebook posts where people change their profile picture to the star tha t most resembles them, but there is more to this question. When you ask someone who they would want to represent their life, the attributes, values, and associations with that actor/actress says volumes. If I were to to say that I wanted Angelina Jolie to play me, there is a certain image that she portrays. I could then explain that I admire her humanitarian work and her adaptable style of acting that involves a portfolio from action movies to cartoon voice acting. Shes also a little edgy and very maternal. These are all values that are important to me and come through in my choice of actress to represent my life.On the surface, these strange job interview questions can seem to be unpredictable and strange, but when you understand the heart of what a company is looking for, you can do a better job representing yourself. With human resource departments seeing hundreds of applications and doing dozens of interviews, having an organic and genuine response to any question, strange or no t, is going to keep the attention of your interviewer. Make sure to calm those butterflies and show off your best self.Readers, what are some strange job interview questions youve had to answer?

What to Do if You Hate Your Job and Want to Quit - The Muse

What to Do if You Hate Your Job and Want to Quit - The MuseWhat to Do if You Hate Your Job and Want to Quit I left my first post-graduate school job for a different one about a year after starting. Two years later, and I parted ways with that one, too. I know what you may be thinking- ah, the typical Millennial whos never satisfied and complains about everything. Its OK if you think that. In fact, I thought the same thing for a while. Maybe Im the dicke bretter bohren mssen played on repeat in my head, and I convinced myself I welchesnt a hard worker and would never be happy working anywhere. But I dont believe that anymore. What I do believe is that you deserve to be happy with your work most of the time. And, in addition, you need to work to be happy at your job. An opportunity you absolutely love will most likely not just fall into your lap. So part of working for it means not up and quitting as soon as times get tough, to move onto the next best thing. Instead it means examining t he current role youre in, (as well as those from the past), and figuring out precisely why its not a good fit for you. And I did just that, which is why I dont regret leaving two gigs in the span of three years. Because I used each of those experiences to help shape the next one, bringing me closer and closer to the ideal position for me. In reservierung to get the most out of each opportunity, even ones you end up hating, you must dig deeper. You must pick apart every single aspect to figure out whats making you dread going into the office each day. You can start this process by literally creating a pros and cons list and filling it in throughout a typical workweek. Look for patterns- everything that involves organization falls into a pro everything that involves your micromanaging boss does not. Theres nothing too small to go on this list. Because at the end of the exercise, you can use the pro column as your ideal job description to be matched up against real listing. And you can use the con column as red flags to keep an eye out for in einstellungsgesprchs. But before you put in your two weeks, do this Figure Out if You Can Fix the ProblemI probably dont have to tell you this, but job searchings hard. It takes time, effort, and the ability to bounce back from rejection. You cant put it off forever, but you also shouldnt put yourself through it unless its actually necessary. (Unless youre the type of person who likes to get root canals just for fun- then go for it) Instead, look at that pros and cons list and zero in on the aspect of your current position that bothers you most. Perhaps its only one big thing, and youll be able to change it. For example, my good friend works as a seminar manager for a leadership-focused nonprofit. One of her main responsibilities is to organize all the materials needed for each conference. Before she started, all handouts, readings, and articles were saved in hard copy versions (and no, she didnt start in the 90s. She started two years ago). As you can imagine, having to make hundreds of copies from something thats only saved in a binder is seriously frustrating, and the manual aspect of it was weighing her down. So, she initiated a process to migrate as many documents as possible to the computer (finally). And now? Well, she can just press print. Its a small change thats made her job a whole lot better. For you, it may be something else. Maybe you feel youve mastered your current role and youre bored to tears. You could try asking for additional projects, or you could even explore openings in other departments. The point is, sometimes you can find a solution to the reason youre so unsatisfied. (Other than saying, See ya never) WE KNOW HATING YOUR JOB KINDA SUCKSThe good thing is that we know of 10,000+ openings that you can apply toCheck them out now Analyze Your Intel and Make a Game PlanMaybe you decide you definitely need to find something new. The root of the problem cant be changed, and so its tim e for you to go. Knowing what it is specifically that you dont like is extremely helpful. Because every piece of information you can gather is a clue to your career puzzle. So, go back to that pros and cons list. Take me for example There are a few reasons I left my most recent company, but the biggie was that I had some pretty serious issues with the transformation of the company culture after we went through an acquisition. So, when I was going through the interview process, I made sure to ask everyone I spoke with- the recruiter, hiring manager, current employees- how they felt about working at the company. I also scoured the interwebs as well as the organizations benefits packages to ensure as much as possible aligned with my beliefs and values. Heres another story, my partner was in a toxic relationship with his last position. When he made a major career shift this past October, he knew there were two main things he wanted to be different the commute and the ability to have a v oice. Now, rather than spending at least 45 minutes in the car each way (love you, DC traffic), he rides his bike four miles to and from work. And, instead of dealing with management that has a If its not broken, dont fix it. Dont even look at it approach, hes second in command to his two bosses and is playing a huge role in shaping the the new store location. Had neither of us pinpointed what we wanted to change, we probably wouldve applied to positions very similar to what we were already doing. And that vicious cycle wouldve gone on. And on. And on. To be honest, I dont know if the perfect job is out there for anyone. That may just be an unreasonable expectation. But that doesnt mean you need to settle for being unhappy, disgruntled, and downright miserable. Examining the factors that are causing you to be so glum will help you figure out where to go next, whether thats adjusting something about your current situation or finding something completely different. Because you cant se e the future, you cant see precisely where your career path will take you. But you can help shape it. Photo of unhappy person courtesy of ONOKY-Eric Audras/Getty Images.

Guerrilla Marketing and Non-Traditional Advertising

Guerrilla Marketing and Non-Traditional AdvertisingGuerrilla Marketing and Non-Traditional AdvertisingIn 1984, the year Apple broke the mold, Jay Conrad Levinson published a now legendary book called Guerrilla Marketing. It talked about unconventional ways of advertising, using smaller budgets and a larger imagination to capture the attention of consumers. Think outside of the box (in this case, the TV) and get away from the printed page. Be different. Stand out. Be unexpected. Over 25 years later, guerrilla marketing is now as commonplace as radio ads and outdoor. Here are some of the many ways you can advertise in non-traditional ways Undercover marketing subtle product placementExperiential marketing interaction with a productTissue-pack marketing hand-to-hand marketingReverse Graffiti clean pavement advertisingViral marketing through social networksBuzz marketing word of mouth marketingGrassroots marketing tapping into the collective efforts of brand enthusiastsWild Posting Campa ignsWait marketing when and where consumers are waiting However, with the popularity of this advertising method comes a consumer overloaded with advertising messages. In 1984, seeing an ad in a urinal or on the sidewalk was extraordinary. You could not help but take notice. Now, many consumers are so sick of the ad bombardment they face every day that ansicht guerrilla tactics are mora than a little annoying. To some, theyre insulting. But that doesnt mean guerrilla marketing has come to an end. Far from it. Jay Conrad Levinson was right its a fantastic way to capture the attention, and imagination, of your target audience. You just have to do it right. And that means not only paying close attention to some of the important guidelines established in the Guerrilla Marketing book but knowing which of these guidelines no longer apply. The Core Principles of Good Guerrilla When it was published in 1984, Guerrilla Marketing was groundbreaking. Times change. Rules change. And some thi ngs stay the same. One of Levinsons big ideas was that good marketing doesnt have to cost anything. It can be most effective when its free, using nachrichten outlets to spread the message for you. That still applies today, and a savvy advertiser can take full advantage of the news to give the client real bang for the buck. This example, by Amelie Company, Denver, generated six-figure publicity with a 3D billboard simulating a crash. All the major local news channels picked it up. Other rules of guerrilla marketing that should still be followed include It should be based on human psychology rather than experience, judgment, and guesswork.Instead of money, the primary investments of marketing should be time, energy, and imagination. The primary statistic to measure your business is the amount of profit, not sales. The marketer should also concentrate on how many new relationships are made each month.Create a standard of excellence with an acute focus instead of trying to diversify by of fering too many diverse products and services.Instead of concentrating on getting new customers, aim for more referrals, more transactions with existing customers, and larger transactions. Forget about the competition and concentrate more on cooperating with other businesses.Guerrilla marketers should use a combination of marketing methods for a campaign.Use current technology as a tool to build your business.Messages are aimed at individuals or small groups, the smaller, the better.Focuses on gaining the consent of the individual to send them more information rather than trying to make the sale. But one of Levinsons ideas needs to be updated. This one Guerrilla Marketing is specifically geared for the small business and entrepreneur. In its infancy, guerrilla marketing was specifically geared for the small business and entrepreneur. Levinson was right at the time. But now, many major corporations are taking advantage of guerrilla marketing, including Nike, Apple, Proctor Gamble, N estle, ATT, and Sony. It is not exactly a pond full of small fish. But regardless of the time, the client, product, service or location, this quote by Levinson will always be of the utmost importance. Its not just for guerrilla marketing, but any communication between the company and consumer In bestellung to sell a product or a service, a company must establish a relationship with the customer. It must build trust and support. It must understand the customers needs, and it must provide a product that delivers the promised benefits.

The 3-step strategy that helped nearly 100 millionaires get rich

The 3-step strategy that helped nearly 100 millionaires get richThe 3-step strategy that helped nearly 100 millionaires get richSometimes, simplicity is key.Thats particularly the case when it comes to building wealth, according to John, who runs the personal-finance blog ESI Money and retired early at the age of 52 with a $3 million net worth.John, who doesnt share his last name online, interviewed 100 millionaires over the past few years and found that nearly all of them built their wealth in three simple steps, or what he calls the old-fashioned way. They earned a lot, saved a ton, and invested for a long time, he wrote. This is in contrast to the common belief that most millionaires inherit their wealth or got lucky with big risks, he said, though one or two of his interviewees did get rich that way.The median net worth of millionaires John interviewed welches $2.3 million. While 90% of them were men, 93% were married, so John said he considered the women millionaires as well. The median age of the people he surveyed was just under 50.One of the millionaires told John that he and his wife focused on their careers, made good decisions, saved, and had good fortune with our investments, particularly through his 401(k).We started with literally nothing at ages 27 and 25, and never really made big salaries (although if someone had told me when I started out that Id be making six figures someday, I would have told them they were crazy), the millionaire told John. We had some luck selling homes at the right time and made a few dollars as we were forced to move a couple times. But there was certainly nothing strategic about the timing. He added In all honesty the biggest moment in our financial life came when an older coworker literally walked me up to HR back in 1992 and made me sign up for this thing called a 401(k). If he hadnt been so forceful and insistent, I might not even be answering this interview as a millionaire.John said this kind of behavior was characte ristic for most of the millionaires he interviewed. They make solid money moves over time and ultimately become wealthy, he wrote. The simple - and long-lasting - habits are the most importantWilliam D. Danko, the coauthor of the best-seller The Millionaire Next Door, is also a huge proponent of saving and maximizing income to build wealth - no matter your financial situation or education. In a recent QA with The Washington Post, Danko emphasized the importance of saving 20% of your income. If you earn and spend everything, you cannot build a significant financial net worth, he said. You must practice self-imposed financial scarcity. So, if you make $100,000, create a lifestyle that only requires 80% of this, and save/invest the rest.Committing to saving your income is part of setting financial goals. Its at the heart of building any wealth, Business Insider previously reported. That 20% should be put toward an emergency fund, retirement, and paying down debt.Danko also advised hav ing more than one income stream to maximize your savings and investments, which will earn compound interest the earlier you start investing and the longer you live.In fact, investing is yet another way millionaires favor simplicity John also found that they use a simple investing strategy by investing in low-cost index funds - the same investment strategy championed by the billionaire investor Warren Buffett.Becoming wealthy is simple - create a gap between earning and spending for many years, John wrote. A huge inheritance or hot stock tip is not required. This article first appeared on Business Insider.
